I will be exhibiting a selection of my paintings at the new Spring exhibition opening at the Palais des Vaches, Lower Exbury farm, Inchmery Lane, Exbury, SO45 1AE
The work on show will include this painting entitled The Broken Fence, a large oil landscape featuring one of my favourite subjects; the Barn owl. The painting was inspired by one particularly snowy winter when I was living in Breamore Village on the edge of the New Forest. This old fence, held together with baling twine and barbed wire, zig-zagged its way across the white landscape and I was immediately attracted by the colours and shapes it made. It seemed to me the perfect perching place for the local Barn owls out on the search for food. I often think of the harsh struggle wildlife faces during extreme weather and for Barn owls, with no water proofing in their feathers, the search for voles and mice amid the falls of snow and sleet can be particularly challenging. What an amazing and very beautiful bird.
